If you need fast home internet but fibre has not reached your building, cable may be a practical alternative. Cable internet in Germany uses the television cable connection already installed at eligible addresses, with plans offering high download speeds but lower upload speeds. Your choice comes down to the connection inside your building, the offers available at your exact address and the full cost after any introductory period. Always complete an address check before choosing a plan.

To VodafoneCable broadband in Germany normally reaches a building through the coaxial network originally used for cable television. Inside an eligible home, a cable modem-router connects to a multimedia cable socket and provides Wi-Fi and wired internet access.
Capacity is shared across parts of the local cable network. Performance can therefore be affected by local demand, your home wiring, router placement and Wi-Fi conditions. Cable plans also tend to provide much more download capacity than upload capacity, which matters if you regularly send large files, stream live video or back up data online.
Availability is tied to the physical connection at your building and home. A service offered elsewhere in the same town, or even on the same street, may not be available in your apartment. German provider websites often label this technology Kabel-Internet.

The reviewed selection has two providers. Vodafone cable has the broader set of published speed points, including an 800 Mbit/s option and two distinct 1000 Mbit/s offers. O2 cable uses five tiers running from Home S at 50/25 Mbit/s to Home XXL at 1000/75 Mbit/s.
Both providers have plans at 50, 150, 300, 600 and 1000 Mbit/s, making like-for-like speed comparisons possible. Do not choose from the introductory monthly figure alone. Compare the later price, activation charge, minimum term and any hardware costs presented during checkout. The right provider also depends on which one accepts your exact address.
Cable, fibre and DSL use different routes into your home. Cable uses coaxial television infrastructure, fibre internet carries data over optical fibre, and DSL internet uses the telephone line. The available connection at your address is more important than a general comparison between technologies.
Cable is worth considering when you want one of the higher advertised download tiers and your building has a serviceable connection. Its upload rates are lower than its download rates in every plan we reviewed, and local shared capacity can influence real-world performance.
Fibre may suit households that value the characteristics of a fibre connection, while DSL may remain an option where cable or fibre cannot be ordered. Compare the exact monthly costs, upload speed, contract term and installation requirements returned for your address. If no fixed-line option fits, you can also investigate 5G home internet.
Confirm the live offer at your address.
No. Availability depends on the cable network serving your building and whether your home has a connection that the provider can activate. Results can differ between nearby buildings and individual units. Complete the provider’s address check using your full address before comparing prices. A city-level result or an existing television socket does not confirm that a particular cable plan can be ordered.
No. Cable normally uses coaxial television infrastructure for the final connection to your home, while fibre carries data over optical fibre. Cable plans can offer high advertised download speeds, but their upload rates are usually lower than their download rates. The better choice depends on the plans available at your address, their total cost and how you use the connection.
Start with availability, then compare equivalent speed tiers from Vodafone and O2. Look beyond the introductory rate to the later monthly price, activation fee, contract term and hardware charges. Vodafone has more published cable speed points in our review, while O2 has lower activation fees across the plans considered. That does not determine which offer has the lower total cost for your needs.
The reviewed plans advertise download speeds of 50, 150, 300, 600, 800 or 1000 Mbit/s, although not every provider offers every tier. Advertised upload speeds are 25 Mbit/s on the 50 Mbit/s plans and 75 Mbit/s on the higher tiers. Your address check determines which options you can order, while home wiring, Wi-Fi and local network conditions can affect actual performance.
The reviewed selection includes one 12-month cable plan: GigaZuhause 50 Cable 12 M at 50/25 Mbit/s. The other 12 plans have 24-month terms. If flexibility matters more than cable technology, compare the minimum term, monthly price and cancellation conditions carefully.
